The first few seasons of American Dad are racist, sexist, homophobic and xenophobic. I guess that was the point from the get-go, hence the premise of the ‘Merica’ f*ck yeah CIA agent character Stan Smith. I don’t even think some of the jokes are funny. Most are not and leave you kind of going, “Did I ever watch this season?” The writing is a huge departure from the humor you can expect from any one of the other 14 seasons. It’s kind of like a slap in the face to see this really bad “conservative humor” on your favorite show.
I guess I didn’t get into the cartoon until Roger the alien was introduced into the opening credits song. Different writers. Just weird to watch something from season 1 in syndication and be like there is no way I ever thought this was funny. Probably the same thing goes for people who like this bullshit and watch the later seasons thinking “how did American dad start to champion liberal humor?”
The same kind of experience goes for It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia. There will be some super sketch scenes peppered throughout the series that I now kind of find questionable and will actively turn it off if it’s just too much.
Regardless, they are still a few of my favorite shows. Except for the shows about Steve Smith on American Dad. Usually, those ones are a little gay and even pedo themed. And since the rise of the Qanon’s taking action against everyone even remotely associated with child sex jokes I kind of cringe during those episodes too. Like, as I’m maturing I am taking more responsibility for what I find funny and the implications of supporting certain types of sick humor. So I guess that’s a good thing. Never thought that a wildly debunked Trump-supporting internet cult would help guide my moral compass. Help me God if anyone has any 20-year-old footage of me telling dead baby jokes.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
